It is no secret that military life can take its toll on relationships. Deployments of six months--sometimes even longer--training and courses keep members of the Canadian Forces away from home. The stress on marriages can be overwhelming; many of them end in divorce or separation. According to the latest divorce rates from Statistics Canada, in 2008, 38 per cent of marriages ended in divorce by the 30th anniversary. Although divorce rates have dropped in Canada, marriage rates have also decreased, with more people opting to cohabitate, and the end of those relationships are not taken into account.
